Sculpture/Mixed Media

Sculpting with different Materials

The materials used in sculpting have vastly expanded over the last decades. Traditional materials such as stone and wood are combined with metal and are put into the same place as every day and work specific materials such as asphalt, cement and papier-mâché. Uniqueness’ and juxtapositions of materials and their possible flaws such as rust are integrated into the work.

In the course of Francesca Cataldi the stimulation comes from the intended exploration of both sides of the spectrum; from the planned to the “happy accidents”, from the structured image surface to the 3-dimentional image-objects protruding into space. In the course creative expressions can, through copying of objects, drawings etc. be expanded upon and abstracted. What matters, is to make aware the participants of the use and importance of traditional sculpting methods, but in a creative way.
